The Warfield House Inn Area Guide

Off the farm there are a host of exciting things to do. A rafting trip down the Deerfield River is both exciting and beautiful. One of the companies is Zoar Outdoors located at the bottom of our Hill. Moxie Rafting is located across the river. And there is Crab Apple just east of Charlemont on Route 2. These companies have been in business for many years and run very responsible operations.

A short ride, ten minutes, east to Shelburne Falls will be worth several interesting stops.  See the glacial pot holes in the Deerfield River. Back on Bridge St. there are several craft and art shops to visit before you go over the well known Bridge of Flowers.

In the winter time come visit and go skiing at Berkshire East. That is the ski area that you can see from our farm. They have well groomed trails , lights for night skiing and they make their own snow if the weather doesn’t cooperate. If your headed for Mount Snow, it’s only 40 minutes north of us.

For no fee at all you can bring your snow shoes (or borrow ours) and go snow shoeing on our farm. There are literally miles of trails and woods roads. This is a very rewarding effort.

For the golf enthusiast, of which I am one, there are several courses nearby. The best one is Crumpin Fox located about 30 minutes east in Bernardston. This is one of the top golf courses in the Northeast. In Greenfield there are two courses, The Greenfield Country Club and The Meadows Golf Course.

About a twenty minute drive to Ashfield there are two more courses, Edgehill Golf Course, and Ashfield Country Club. Both are very challenging, inexpensive, uncrowded, and pretty.

For tennis players, there are four courts at the Mohawk Trail Regional High School in Buckland. About a twelve minute drive.

No one should miss taking the magnificent forty minute ride over the Mohawk Trail from Charlemont to Williamstown to visit the Clark Museum. One of the premier museums in the United States it is full of master works of art.

North Adams is home to the very new Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (Mass MOCA). Our state of Massachusetts has spent millions of dollars converting one of the old textile mills into this fine museum.

For those interested in cultural pursuits, the Berkshires is home to many theater companies, such as Williamstown Theater Festival, the Berkshire Theatre Festival and Shakespeare & Co. You can also enjoy music and dance at Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival and the famous Tanglewood.

If I sound a little prejudiced and enthusiastic about all this its because I am!
